World AIDS Day, observed every year on 1 December, is a global day of solidarity to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, support those living with the condition, and remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses. Established in 1988 as the first-ever global health day, it serves as a platform to highlight progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS while addressing ongoing challenges such as stigma, discrimination, and barriers to prevention and treatment. Supported by health organisations worldwide, including the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS), World AIDS Day calls for collective action to achieve a future free of HIV/AIDS and ensure access to equitable care for all.
