World Pneumonia Day, marked annually on 12 November, is a global initiative to raise awareness about pneumonia, a preventable and treatable disease that remains a leading cause of death in children under five and a significant health concern for adults. Established in 2009, the day is supported by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) and other health organisations, highlighting the importance of vaccination, proper nutrition, and access to medical care in combating pneumonia. World Pneumonia Day underscores the need for collective action to reduce its burden and improve outcomes for individuals and communities worldwide.
