The FIRS Lung Health Taskforce is delighted to be participating in the ALAT 2026 Congress with a dedicated scientific session focused on advancing a global approach to lung health.

Bringing together international experts, the session will showcase the Taskforce’s latest work to develop practical frameworks and tools that can strengthen lung health assessment, improve prevention strategies, and support evidence-informed policy around the world.

Session Programme

Towards a Global Framework for Lung Health

The opening presentation will introduce the FIRS Lung Health Taskforce, outlining its vision, objectives, and current activities. It will provide an overview of the Taskforce’s work to establish a shared global framework for understanding and promoting lung health.

Measuring Lung Health: Global Spirometry Standards and Training

This presentation will introduce the Global Spirometry Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Training Framework. These initiatives aim to improve the quality and consistency of lung function testing worldwide, providing a robust foundation for measuring lung health across different healthcare settings.

Understanding Lung Health: Determinants Across the Life Course

This session will explore the biological, environmental, and social determinants that influence lung health from early life through adulthood. It will examine how these factors vary across populations and regions, and how they can inform prevention strategies and contribute to the development of a Global Lung Health Index.

Defining Lung Health: The Global Lung Health Index

The final presentation will discuss the rationale for developing a Global Lung Health Index, including how it could be constructed and applied at the population level. The Index has the potential to support monitoring, international comparisons, and policy development to improve respiratory health globally.

Panel Discussion

Priorities and Opportunities for Implementation
