FIRS Lung Health Taskforce is working to transform how lung health is understood, assessed, and discussed worldwide. In collaboration with the Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI), the Taskforce is bringing together international experts to help establish a shared global framework for lung health for a session at ATS on 17th May 2026.
To date, the Taskforce has:
✅ Developed a Spirometry Toolkit
✅ Created a Global Spirometry Standard Operating Procedure and Training Framework
✅ Identified key biological, environmental, and social factors that influence lung health across the life course
Building on this important foundation, the Taskforce is now exploring the principles and pathways that could support the future development of a Global Lung Health Index — an important step in addressing the growing global burden of respiratory disease.
This session will:
🔹 Introduce the work of the FIRS Lung Health Taskforce
🔹 Highlight areas of current international consensus
🔹 Explore emerging approaches to measuring and comparing lung health globally
Sunday, May 17, 2026
